Most people searching for a “boat rental” in Turks and Caicos want a private boat for the day. Here, that means a crewed private charter: a captain and crew run the boat while you relax. Poseidon doesn’t offer self-drive rentals, and per our owner, self-drive boat rentals are prohibited in Turks and Caicos. So the real choice is between a private charter and a shared tour.
If you’ve typed “boat rental Turks and Caicos” or “yacht rental Turks and Caicos” into a search bar, you’ve probably noticed the results mix several different products together. Some are private yachts with a full crew. Some are shared boat tours. People call them all “rentals,” and the price and the day are very different.
We run crewed private charters out of Turtle Cove Marina, so we’re not neutral. But we’d rather you book the right thing anywhere than the wrong thing with us. Here’s how to tell them apart.
The terms, in plain English
Private charter. You hire a boat and a crew for a set block of time, and the day is yours. A captain drives the boat. A deckhand (and on our largest yacht, a bartender) looks after the group. Food, drinks and gear are often included. You decide where to go, how long to stay, and when to eat.
Boat rental. Visitors use this word for any private boat for the day. In Turks and Caicos, that means a crewed charter. Poseidon has no self-drive boats, and all of our charters are crewed. Because “rental” can mean different things to different operators, ask what’s included before you book.
Shared boat tour. You buy a seat on a boat with other guests, on a fixed route and schedule. It’s the lowest per-person price, and the least flexible.
The most important question to ask any provider isn’t what they call the trip. It’s who is aboard, what’s included in the price, and how many other guests you’re sharing with.

Why most visitors end up choosing a charter
Turks and Caicos water is beautiful, and it’s tricky. The Caicos Bank is shallow, sandbars shift, tides change the color and clarity of the water, and the wind decides which side of a cay is calm. Marked channels matter. That’s why the day runs with a local captain at the helm.
That’s the difference: on a crewed charter, someone else handles the route, the anchor, the weather and the timing. You decide whether to swim first or eat first.
There are a few other reasons people choose a crewed charter:
- Local knowledge. A captain who works these waters every day knows where the turtles were yesterday, which snorkel spot is clearest this morning, and how to time a sandbar stop.
- Service. Full meals, premium drinks, snorkel gear and paddleboards are handled for you, and there’s a crew to help kids and less confident swimmers.
- Flexibility. You get the privacy of your own boat with the ease of a tour.
- Comfort. Our yachts are professionally maintained, with shaded lounges, air conditioning, restrooms and a full galley.
What Poseidon’s private charters look like?
Everything we run is crewed and private, on professionally maintained yachts, with full meals, premium drinks and gear included. Toys are available too. The fleet:
VENUS is our new 51-foot luxury power catamaran, and the newest boat in the fleet. She carries up to 25 guests with a crew of three, and she’s open for booking for the 2026–27 season. A catamaran has a wide, stable deck and a big open lounge, which makes her a natural fit for large groups, family trips and celebrations. Half day (4 hours) starts at $5,500 and a full day (8 hours) at $9,800 for up to six guests.
Salacia is our flagship: a 62-foot Sea Ray Super Sun Sport with up to 22 guests and a crew of three (captain, deckhand and bartender), an elevated bar, two staterooms and two restrooms, a motorized swim platform, and outdoor air conditioning under the hard top. She suits milestone birthdays, family reunions and corporate days. A 10-foot tender is available for beach and hotel pickups, for an additional charge.
Calypso is a 51-foot Sea Ray Sundancer carrying up to 12 guests with a crew of two. She has an outdoor kitchen with a grill and wet bar, about 350 square feet of air-conditioned living space, two staterooms and two bathrooms, and swim platforms for easy access to the water. Built for cruising and sunbathing on the bow.
Iris is a 51-foot Sea Ray Sundancer in the same class: up to 12 guests, a crew of two, extended hard-top coverage, outdoor air conditioning, two staterooms and two bathrooms, new seating, a bow sunbathing area and a 10-speaker sound system that runs around the whole boat.
All of our vessels carry snorkel gear, paddleboards and a full sound system. Browse the details on our fleet page.
What it costs for a yacht charter in Turks and Caicos?
On a private charter you pay per boat, and prices step up as the boat gets larger. Our rates run from $2,800 for a sunset cruise on Calypso or Iris to $9,800 for a full day on VENUS, before the 12% government tax and a processing fee (6% on the website, 3% by direct payment link), for up to six guests, with additional guests priced per person. Premium drinks, full meals, snorkel gear and paddleboards are included. We break the numbers down further in our charter pricing guide.
When you compare any two prices, make sure you’re comparing the same thing. A lower base price that leaves out food, drinks or fuel isn’t necessarily cheaper once you add them back.
Questions to ask any provider before you book
Whoever you book with, ask:
- Is a professional crew included, and how many are aboard?
- What is the maximum number of guests, and is that number the same for every trip?
- What’s included: food, drinks, snorkel gear, fuel?
- What’s the total price after taxes and fees?
- What’s the cancellation and weather policy? (Ours: full refund 72 or more hours before the charter, 50% refund 24 to 48 hours before, no refund within 24 hours. If the captain or management judges weather unsafe or unsuitable, you can reschedule or take a full refund.)
- Who am I booking with, the operator or a reseller? Booking direct usually means you’re speaking with the people who will run your day, and you’re not paying a middleman’s commission.
Which is right for you?
Choose a private crewed charter if you’re bringing family or friends, celebrating something, or visiting Turks and Caicos for the first time. For groups of 13 or more, VENUS (up to 25 guests) and Salacia (up to 22) are built for it.
Choose a shared tour if you’re traveling as a couple or solo, want the lowest price, and don’t mind a set route with other guests.
