A private sunset cruise reserves the whole boat for your group for the sunset window. A shared sunset cruise sells individual seats on a larger boat, so the evening is shared with other parties and runs to the operator’s schedule. If you’re celebrating, proposing, or traveling with a group that wants to talk, a private charter is usually the better fit. If you’re a couple who enjoys company, a shared cruise can make sense. A private charter is built around your group and the attention of the crew. Every Poseidon charter is private, and our sunset charter runs 2.5 hours.
Private vs. shared at a glance
| Shared sunset cruise | Private sunset charter | |
|---|---|---|
| Who’s aboard | Your group plus other parties | Your group and the crew |
| How it’s priced | Typically per person | Per vessel, plus additional guests |
| Schedule and route | Typically set by the operator for all guests | Planned around your group |
| Privacy | Shared deck | Your own deck |
| Best for | Guests happy to share the evening | Proposals, anniversaries, birthdays, groups who want the boat to themselves |
Shared-cruise characteristics are general, and vary by operator. Ask each operator how their cruise works.
How our sunset charter is priced
Our sunset charter is 2.5 hours, timed around sunset. In winter, sunset falls between about 5:05 and 5:55 p.m. (see the table below). The rate covers the vessel for up to six guests, children under 10 included. Beyond six, additional adults are added per person and children under 10 are $100 each.
2026–27 season rates, effective November 1, 2026, excluding the 12% government tax:
| Vessel | Guests (max) | Sunset, up to 6 guests | A fuller boat, before tax | Per guest, before tax |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Calypso or Iris | 12 | $2,800 | 12 guests: $4,000 | about $333 |
| Salacia | 22 | $3,800 | 14 guests: $5,800 | about $414 |
| VENUS | 25 | $4,800 | 25 guests: $9,550 | $382 |
Additional adults on a sunset charter are $200 on Calypso and Iris and $250 on Salacia and VENUS.
A group of six on Calypso or Iris pays $2,800 plus $336 tax, or $3,136 in total, about $523 per guest.
When sunset falls
Winter sunsets come earlier than most visitors expect, and they shift across the season. These are sunset times for Providenciales:
| Date | Sunset (local time) |
|---|---|
| Nov 2 | 5:11 p.m. |
| Nov 12 | 5:07 p.m. |
| Dec 5 | 5:05 p.m. |
| Dec 20 | 5:11 p.m. |
| Jan 1 | 5:18 p.m. |
| Jan 30 | 5:38 p.m. |
| Feb 16 | 5:48 p.m. |
| Mar 4 | 5:55 p.m. |
After the clocks change in March, sunset moves to around 7 p.m. A 2.5-hour charter timed around these sunsets is, for most of the winter, an afternoon-into-evening trip, so ask which boarding time suits the date you’ve chosen.
What’s on the evening
Premium drinks are included on our charters. For a celebration, charcuterie boards are available at $200 (serves 2–4 people) or $300 (serves 5–6 people). If you want dinner, we also offer sunset dinner cruises.
Who should choose which
Choose a private sunset charter if…
- you’re proposing, celebrating an anniversary or birthday, or want conversation without an audience
- your group is six or more and the per-guest price falls as you fill the boat
- you’d rather the boat move at your pace
Choose a shared cruise if…
- you’re one or two people and you enjoy the company
- you don’t mind a set schedule and other guests aboard
